Hey Dave,

I utilize suits for my work, and the expense for dry cleaning them is substantial. I don't use suits in my life outside of work. Can I deduct the dry cleaning price as a business concern expense?

Tim

  Tim,

Pitiful to say, just, no, you are non allowed to claim these clothing expenses as business expenses. The IRS has a two prong test that y'all are required to pass in order to deduct the cost of piece of work clothing as an employee business expense. The starting time condition is that the wearing of the wear must be a status of your employment, and the 2nd is that the clothes cannot exist suitable for everyday clothing. So, even if you choose non to wear the suits off the chore, they are even so considered suitable for everyday wear and therefore non deductible on your return. This rule also applies to the cost of upkeep of the clothing, which in your case is the dry cleaning costs. If the clothing is deductible, and so is the cost of the budget, and, if it'south non, and then neither is the cost of the upkeep.

Deductibly Yours,

Dave
